Altonia
Baguley built 2ft gauge steam outline 0-4-0 diesel locomotive “Altonia”. Originally built as works number 1769 in May 1929 and delivered to the Lilleshall Hall railway. After WW2, the railway at Lilleshall closed and by the early 1950s the locomotive had found its way to Alton Towers to be used on their miniature railway which ran between 1953 and 1999. Originally built with a Baguley 15hp petrol engine, it was fitted with a 27hp Perkins diesel engine in 1963 and it still has this engine today. It was named “Altonia” sometime between 1966 and 1969.

It was purchased by the current owner from Alton Towers in 2002. This locomotive is now offered for sale in our auction on Saturday 11 September  2010 in a good, well cared for condition with an estimate of £22,000. The locomotive weighs around 2.5 tons and is 10ft 6inch in length. The eventual purchaser will have to arrange transportation, at their own cost, from a location in Surrey. Further items, including track and two small flat-bed wagons, will be available for purchase by the successful bidder by arrangement with the vendor.
