The front top segmented dial has the labels: “Avonmouth Via Henbury, South Wales, Standish & Yate, Badminton, Severn Beach Via Pilning LL, Stoke Gifford, Filton Jcn Only” with four blank spaces. The bottom dial, which mimics most of the locations in the top dial, has holes for a peg to be inserted which activates a clockwork mechanism and the appropriate description is passed to the next box. While in store it was purchased by BR in December 1948 becoming 90171. A long-time Rose Grove loco from where it was withdrawn in July 1965 and cut up by T.W. Ward at Killamarsh. | 17 | METROPOLITAN-VICKERS DIESEL ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE comprised of 12” x 5½” steel description plate detailing Weight, Tractive Effort, Manufacturer, etc and 5” x 1¾” chrome plate showing “Serial Number 1009.” Carried by the Co-Bo 1,200HP diesel-electric Type 2 loco numbered D5716 when taken into stock at Derby in May 1959. By February 1961 the loco was stored at Derby and returned to MV for repairs in October that year. In October 1964 it went to Crewe for re-engineering and returned to traffic in March 1966. Withdrawal finally came in September and it went into store at Kingmoor whence it was towed to John Cashmore at Great Bridge for scrapping a year later, being cut up by the December. Locos were to become class 28, but none survived long enough to be renumbered, but D5705 is preserved. Ex-loco condition. (2). | £550 |

Transferred to Longsight in July 1991 and taken off lease in November 2002 and into secure storage at MOD Longtown. Loco sent to Immingham TMD in August 2003, nameplates removed in October and cut up by staff from Easco in November 2003. 8¾” x 6¾”, the number “86244” is clearly stamped on the back. | 39 | BR(S) BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WHISTLE as carried by “Merchant Navy” class 4-6-2 Pacific locomotive No. 35022 “HOLLAND AMERICA LINE.” The legend “BR (S) T/A” and the number “35022” clearly stamped into cast mounting bracket. Built at Eastleigh in October 1948 to order HO 3393 and rebuilt there in June 1956, the loco spent many years at Bournemouth before moving to Exmouth Junction, with a brief spell at Nine Elms and finally to Weymouth. Withdrawn in May 1966 and sent to D. Woodham at Barry Docks for scrapping in October the same year. Subsequently purchased privately for preservation and moved to Swanage for restoration in March 1986, the 170th loco to leave Barry. The whistle is complete with all the linkage and valve and is mounted on a wooden base. 18” tall from lever to top of finial. A superb item in VGC. | £1500 |

Loco went to store at Doncaster in December 2000. Nameplates removed c. March 2001 and transferred to 37411. 37413 moved to Cardiff for repairs and returned to traffic when completed, date unknown. Renumbered by BR 45580 in May 1949, the loco spent many of its later years at Blackpool, then a short period at Warrington, before final allocation to Newton Heath where withdrawal took place in December 1964. 23½” x 4¼” a St Rollox Works casting with slightly pinched letters when compared with the typical Crewe product. | 180 | BRASS CABSIDE NUMBERPLATES: “100 A1” from the GWR 4-6-0 “Castle” class loco “LLOYDS.” Originally a “Star” class loco No. 4009 named “Shooting Star” built at Swindon Works No. 2237 to Lot 168 in May 1907 and superheater fitted in October 1912, the loco was withdrawn and rebuilt in April 1925 retaining the original name. It was renumbered and renamed 100 A1 “Lloyds” at a ceremony at Paddington in 1936. “100 A1” is the Lloyd's Register term for a ship in first-class order, and the locomotive was renumbered and renamed after the GWR Chairman, Viscount Horne, met his counterpart at Lloyd's, Neville Dixey. This may have been one of the first examples of “corporate sponsorship.” The loco was fitted for oil burning in January 1947 until reverting to coal in September 1948. Withdrawal from service came in March 1950. Both plates are 18” x 12” and are in completely ex-loco condition. Extremely rare, a set many GWR enthusiasts will want to own. Arguably the most desirable of all cabsides, and of course, unique. (2) | £25400 |

| 200 | BRASS LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: “HAPPY KNIGHT” from the (LNER) “A2” class 4-6-2 Pacific loco 60533 built at Doncaster Works No. 2024. Entered service in April 1948 and a double-chimney was fitted in December 1949. Latterly a New England loco, it spent short periods at Grantham, Kings Cross, Doncaster, before the end came at New England in June 1963 and was scrapped at Doncaster. 65¾” x 7¾” the face lightly polished, the back ex-loco. The names of the other locos with the same length nameplate such as “Ocean Swell, Owen Tudor, Wolf of Badenoch, Sparrow Hawk, Herring Gull, Capercaillie, Chamossaire,” etc., are stamped on the reverse. Studs left in the boltholes on the back can easily be removed if required. The horse “Happy Knight” was owned by Sir W. Cooke and won the 1946 “2000 Guineas” race. The original BR receipt accompanies the lot. The deceased vendor bought the plate from BR and it has been in his collection ever since. | £16000 |

The Seaham & Sunderland Railway (also known as the Londonderry Railway) was opened between Penshaw and Seaham in 1854 and absorbed by the NER in July 1900. | 300 | LMS LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: “CITY OF LONDON” from the 4-6-2 “Princess Coronation” class 7P-8P loco originally numbered 6245 when built at Crewe in July 1943 to order E415 and named at Euston on 20th July 1943. The loco was built with an experimental Kylchap double chimney, was streamlined and the first loco to receive the wartime black livery. De-streamlined in 1947 and renumbered BR 46245 at Nationalisation. Withdrawal came in September 1964. A long time Camden (1B) loco, it spent the last two years at Willesden (1A) and Crewe (5A) working the crack West Coast Main Line expresses such as “The Caledonian,” “Mid-Day Scot,” “ Royal Scot” etc. 75½” x 7½” face polished only, the back ex-loco. The original BR bill of sale to the vendor, who has owned the plate for over 40 years, is available. A rare opportunity to obtain a nameplate of such outstanding quality, and arguably the best “City” name of all. | £55000 |

| 480 | PAINTED STEEL CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE: “GT3” rectangular with three rounded corners, 29” x 12” lettered in yellow on a green background and lined out. This was an experimental 4-6-0 gas turbine loco of 2,750HP powered by mechanical transmission built on the chassis of an ex-LMS class 5 4-6-0 and the tender which carried the fuel was built on the chassis of a BR 6-wheeled tender. It emerged from Vulcan Foundry in May 1961 but did not have an EE number only a VF number which was D228 of 1961. The loco undertook various trials on the Leicester Woodford Halse section of the ex-GCR main line and later over Shap on the WCML. In late 1962 the loco suffered a severe cab fire which led to the BTC pulling out of the project. The loco was returned to English Electric where it remained dumped until February 1966 when finally sold to T.W. Ward at Brindle Heath for scrap in March 1966 and cut-up almost immediately. The loco was sometimes referred to as number 19000 in official papers and if successful would have been named “Lord of The Isles.” The back has been restored. VGC and a rare opportunity to acquire an item from this “one-off” loco. | £4000 |
