The title is in “Sunshine” lettering. 24” x 18” with a few well restored face chips to VGC, the back painted in primer. A rare sign from a port location, possibly Dover.£130
2COUNTY DONEGAL RAILWAYS JOINT COMMITTEE CAST IRON TRESPASS NOTICE: “CDRJC – Any Person Trespassing Will Without Further Notice be Prosecuted Pursuant to 62 & 63 Vic Ch 64 Sec 32. Penalty 40/-“. 19½” x 12” in totally ex-trackside condition front and back. The final section of line closed on 31st December 1959. A very rare notice indeed.£920
3BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “THE BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON Co Ltd Rugby England Diesel Electric No 1034 1957” as carried by BR Bo-Bo 800HP type 1 loco D8203 built by Yorkshire Engine Co as YE 2645 with BTH equipment. Entered traffic in February 1958 at Devons Road (Bow). Withdrawn in March 1969 from Stratford and transferred to Departmental Stock becoming ADB 968003 converted to use as a carriage heating unit at Hornsey. Withdrawn in July 1981 from Colchester and cut up on site with staff from Vic Berry of Leicester in October the same year. Oval, 11” x 6⅛” in ex-loco condition.£760
4GWR BRASS CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE: 8491 as carried by the (GWR) 0-6-0PT of 9400 class loco built by Robert Stephenson Hawthorn in August 1952, Works No 7461, Lot No 386. A long-time Gloucester (Horton Road) engine, withdrawn in July 1963 and cut up at Swindon Works. Restored front to VGC, brass numbers and surround lightly polished, the back cleaned.£500
5TOTEM: DOVER PRIORY BR(S) fully flanged green in VGC with good colour and shine, a couple of touched-in face chips and minor edge rusting only. An ex-LC&DR station opened in July 1861 as Dover Town (Priory), renamed Dover Priory in July 1863, still open today. A rare totem only seen once previously at auction, in September 1998.£1200
6SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 68035 as carried by Ministry of Supply 0-6-0ST “Austerity” loco No 75320 built at Vulcan Foundry Works No 5310 in 1945 and delivered to Longmoor Military Railway in July that year. Sold to LNER in June 1946 becoming 8035 class J94 in July 1946. Renumbered 68035 by BR in March 1949. A Blaydon engine until withdrawn from Darlington in October 1963 and cut up there. Ex-loco condition.£500
7SHEDPLATE: 15E LEICESTER (GC) (February 1958 - September 1963, previously 38C, later 15D) COALVILLE (September 1963 - October 1965, previously 17D and 15D). This former GCR, LNER and BR(E) shed was transferred to the London Midland Region in 1958. It was recoded again in 1963 to 15D, and closed in July 1964. Coalville adopted the 15E code and used it until closure. Repainted front, ex-loco back.£100
8BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY Makers No 1468 Doncaster 1916” as carried by ex-GNR 2-6-0 class H3 loco 1652 built at Doncaster to Order 281 and entered service in May 1916. Became LNER 4652 class K2 in August 1924. Renumbered LNER 1742 in March 1946 and BR 61742 in September 1949 Withdrawn from New England in May 1962 and cut up at Doncaster. Oval, 12” x 7¼” the front cleaned and polished, the back ex-loco. This may be a 1940s Doncaster replacement for the original which had been lost.£340
9BR(Sc) ENAMEL DOORPLATE: “LADIES WAITING ROOM” fully flanged in light blue with deep colour and shine, a couple of touched-in edge chips only. 18” x 6” in virtually mint condition.£200
10TOTEM: APPERLEY BRIDGE BR(NE) fully flanged tangerine in excellent condition with deep colour and shine, very minor edge rusting only. An ex-MR station between Leeds and Shipley, opened in July 1846, variously named Apperley and Apperley Bridge & Rawdon, finally Apperley Bridge in June 1961. The station closed in March 1965. A rare totem, seen only twice previously at auction, the last time in September 2001.£2300
11LONDON & SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY guard’s POCKET WATCH the back engraved “LSWR Passenger 290” which is a little worn with use. The movement is by the American Watch Co Waltham Mass with the serial number 5452339 which was produced in the year 1891-1892. In good working order. £170
12CARRIAGE PRINT: BAMBURGH CASTLE NORTHUMBERLAND by Leonard Squirrell from the LNER post-war series (1945-1955). A view of the castle standing high above the seashore sparsely populated by bathers and walkers. In an original style glazed wooden frame and in VGC.£140
13BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: ANDREW BARCLAY SONS & Co Limited Caledonia Works Kilmarnock No 2040 1937” as carried by an outside cylinder 0-4-0CT new to Stanton & Staveley, Holwell Ironworks and named “STANTON No 35.” Around 1947 it was sold to S&S at Ormesby Ironworks, Middlesbrough, where it was renumbered No 1. The loco was scrapped in 1963. Oval, 16¾” x 11¾” repainted front, back in ex-loco condition.£240
14LONDON & SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY three-aspect HANDLAMP clearly stamped on the side “L&SWR 550 Padstow.” The reducing cone is also stamped “L&SWR” and has a small brass label “E.” The innards comprise a vessel stamped “SWR,” unmarked burner and reflector. Only the green internal glass is present. Bevel-edged front lens with brass rim. From a Cornish station opened in March 1899, closed January 1967. Good, original condition throughout.£180
15LMS HAWKSEYE TARGET SIGN: YORTON painted in brown with cream letters and edging. An ex-LNWR station between Whitchurch – Shrewsbury opened in September 1858, still open today. It passed into BR(W) ownership following Nationalisation hence the colour. 48” x 10½” (18” diameter target), both sides in good ex-station condition. This station does not appear to have been fitted with totems, so this may the only chance to acquire something with the name.N/S
16BR(W) CARRIAGE DESTINATION BOARD with “Ross-on-Wye” on one side “Lydbrook Junction” on the other. Both ex-GWR stations, Lydbrook Junction closed in January 1959, Ross-on-Wye followed suit in November 1964. Wood with metal ends, 32” x 3¼” painted in maroon with yellow lettering in VGC.£450
17LNER CAST IRON SEATBACK: ABERDOUR. 27¾” x 4½” with curved ends from the ex-NBR station between Inverkeithing – Kirkcaldy opened in June 1890, still open today. Repainted front in white lettering on a black background, the back in ex-station condition. A rare example not seen previously at auction.£320
18TYER’S NO 6 BRASS SINGLE LINE TABLET: “MAXTON – ROXBURGH JCT 29” from the ex-NBR St Boswells – Kelso (Tweed Valley) line which closed in June 1964. Roxburgh Junction was the junction for the Jedburgh branch which closed in August 1948. The Maxton to Roxburgh Junction token section was introduced when Maxton signal box was opened in 1915. The token section ceased to exist in February 1932 when Maxton signal box was reduced to a gate box and the token section was extended to between Kelso Junction and Roxburgh Junction signal boxes. The Maxton to Roxburgh Junction token section came back into use on 3rd November 1942 when Maxton became a token station again, and finally ceased to exist in October 1964 when Roxburgh Junction signal box closed. The word “Maxton” is re-engraved, VGC ex-section condition otherwise.£420
19GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY CAST IRON DOORPLATE: “CHECKERS.” 18¾” x 3½” with rounded ends. Repainted front in blue/white to VGC, the stamped initials “GNR” and casting number “G52” neatly picked out in red, the back in original condition. Extremely rare.£150
20TOTEM: RYE BR(S) fully flanged green in VGC with deep colour and shine, a minor face chip and a little edge rusting only. An ex-SE&CR station between Ashford and Hastings opened in February 1851, still open today. A rare totem, seen only twice previously at auction, the last time in June 1992.£1000
21BR(E) ENAMEL SIGN: “BRITISH RAILWAYS (in totem) Ticket Office Parcels Left Luggage Enquiries” with right-pointing two-flight arrow in dark blue and in excellent condition with deep colour and shine. Probably from the exterior of a station. 24” x 22” fully flanged.£240
22SOMERSET & DORSET JOINT RAILWAY CAST IRON MILEPOST MARKER: “42” with the makers McKenzie & Holland initials “McK & HW” and the letters “LSWR” in black on white, the back painted green. This style of marker was used only on the S&DJtR and was recovered from the lineside just south of Stalbridge station which closed along with the rest of the line in March 1966. Rectangular, 8¾” x 5½” restored some time ago.N/S
23BRASS LNER 9” x 5” LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY 68245 Darlington Works 1888” as carried by the ex-NER 0-6-0T class E loco No 1123 which entered service in June 1888. Retained the number 1123 at the Grouping but became class J71 in 1923. Renumbered LNER 8245 in March 1946 and 68245 by BR in November 1948. Withdrawn in April 1959. Lightly polished front and back.£250
24SOUTH AFRICAN RAILWAYS SINGLE LANGUAGE BRASS CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE: 362 S from 3ft 6in gauge 0-8-0 of class S built by Henschel as 21073 of 1928 for shunting duties. Oval, 20¾” x 14½ front repainted, unpolished brasswork, the back in ex-loco condition. A little scoring on the front does not detract.£800
25LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: “CBES No. 1” as carried by City of Birmingham Electric Supply Dept. An outside cylinder 0-4-0ST delivered new to Nechells Power Station Built by Peckett works No 1438 type W5 in July 1916. Sold to Appleby-Frodingham Railway Preservation Society at Scunthorpe Works No 1151 where the loco still resides. 31” x 10½” in “T” shape with letters in one line and number underneath. Repainted and lightly polished front, the back ex-loco.£400
26SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 47680 as carried by the LMS 0-6-0T “Jinty” class 3 (later 3F) loco 16763 built at Horwich in 1931 to Lot 82. Renumbered 7680 in 1934 and 47680 by BR after Nationalisation. Withdrawn from Crewe South in July 1965. Repainted front, the back in ex-loco condition.£400
27SHEDPLATE: 88D MERTHYR (1949 – November 1964). An ex-GWR, BR(W) shed with around 40 locos allocated. On closure, this code was taken over by sub shed RHYMNEY, an ex-RR location until it closed in April 1965 when it lost its allocation of 19 locos. Repainted. A scarce example.£150
28GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY wooden cased double-line block section indicator with glazed front panel showing “Line Clear” and “Train on Line” aspects. On top is a small section bell with a large engraved label “From Dorchester Junction.” This was the junction to the west of Dorchester South which joined the LSWR and GWR lines to Weymouth. The box closed in June 1985 although absolute block on the ex-LSWR line ceased in the early 1970s. 11½” wide, 14” high, 5” deep. Good original condition.£450
29BR(E) ENAMEL DOORPLATE: “ENQUIRIES” dark blue in VGC with excellent colour and shine with no chips or scratches, but evidence of original green door paint on the back. Flangeless,18” x 3½”.£130
30TOTEM: MELROSE BR(Sc) half flanged light blue in VGC with deep colour and shine, a little touched-in edge rusting only. An ex-NBR “Waverley Route” station, opened in February 1849, closed January 1969. A rare totem, only seen twice previously at auction.£600
31GWR ROYAL HOTEL SILVERPLATE HORS D’OEUVRES TRAY manufactured by Mappin & Webb London & Sheffield. Oval with five compartments, 16½” x 10½”. The initials “GWR” and “Great Western Royal Hotel” in scroll underneath are clearly incised on the underside. The hotel, an integral part of Paddington station in London, was opened in June 1854 originally with 103 bedrooms and 15 sitting rooms and was “the finest in London”; later additions increased capacity to 250 bedrooms. The hotel was sold by the BRB in 1983 and still operates today, having recently been refurbished.. VGC.£260
32GLASGOW & SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY CAST IRON NOTICE: “CLEANING ENGINE FIRES Only Permitted Between Notice Boards.” An unheaded notice which caused some correspondence in “Railway Collectors Journal” some time ago when it was established that the notice is G&SWR. 25” x 14” in totally original condition.£240
33BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “THE ENGLISH ELECTRIC COMPANY Ltd London The Vulcan Foundry Ltd Locomotive Works England No. 3044/D706 1962 “ as carried by the BR Co-Co 1750HP diesel electric type 3 loco D6752 which entered traffic at Darnall in September 1962. Renumbered 37052 class 37/0 in February 1974 and 37713 in August 1988 class 37/7. Named “BRITISH STEEL WORKINGTON” at Thornaby TMD without ceremony in August 1992. Nameplates removed in July 1994 at Doncaster. To store at Bescot in March 2000, then moved to Crewe withdrawn awaiting disposal in January 2003, cut up there in June 2006. Rectangular, 10” x 4½” chromed edges, BR blue paint almost removed, the back cleaned and has the number “37052” written on it.£520
34BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WHISTLE as carried by the LMS-NCC 4-4-0 class U2 5’3” gauge locomotive No 78 built by North British Loco Queens Park Works No 23100 in 1924 to NBL Order No L786, Derby Order 6095. Named “CHICHESTER CASTLE” in 1932. To UTA stock as No 78 in 1949 and withdrawn in 1960. Bell shaped, 9¾” tall, the barrel 3¾” diameter, the initials “NCC” stamped into the base nut. The whistle is minus the valve which was a very ornate item. Mounted into a well made wooden base for display, the whistle is lightly polished only and VGC.£120
35TOTEM: COLNE BR(M) fully flanged maroon in VGC with deep colour and shine, a little edge rusting only. An ex-L&YR and Midland joint station between Burnley and Skipton opened in October 1848, still open today.£480
36SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 80113 from the BR standard 2-6-4T class 4 loco built at Doncaster in December 1954 to Order EO398. Allocated to Keith, Hawick and finally St Margarets Edinburgh. Withdrawn in September 1966 and cut up at Shipbuilding Industries, Faslane. Repainted front a long time ago, the back partially in brown primer.£480
37SHEDPLATE: 31E BURY ST EDMUNDS (1950 – January 1959). This former Great Eastern, LNER and BR(E) shed had an allocation of 14 locos in 1950 and by June 1957 it had only three. On closure, in January 1959 it lost its one and only loco, B12 61546. Repainted front, ex-loco back. An extremely rare code to have survived, never offered previously at auction.£850
38GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY. A large Webb & Thompson Electric TRAIN STAFF with the section names “Bodmin Town – Boscarne Junction” embossed on brass plates affixed to one end. A section on the Bodmin – Wadebridge line, Boscarne being the junction with the ex GWR line from Bodmin General and Bodmin Road. This staff is from the GWR Bodmin General to Boscarne Junction section which was changed to electric key token operation in the 1960s. Both lines closed in January 1967. 23” long, the brass rings around the central steel column are approx 2¼” diameter. Good, ex-section condition.£240
39LNER CAST IRON DOORPLATE: “LAMPS.” 13½” x 3½” with rounded ends. Repainted front and back many years ago.£160
40TOTEM: BRAUGHING BR(E) half flanged dark blue in VGC with deep colour and shine, a small repaired face chip and minor edge rusting only. An ex-GER station on the Ware – Buntingford branch in Hertfordshire opened in July 1863, closed November 1964. A rare totem, seen only three times previously at auction.£1800
41PULLMAN CAR BRASS TABLE LAMP in brass with a wavy hexagonal base with a six-sided stem, the base and stem plain without decoration. The top is finished with the usual thistle finial. Clearly stamped “TC35” at the electrical input. Third Class parlour car No. 35 was built in 1926 and used extensively on the SR and LNER, withdrawn in 1963 and preserved at Beaulieu Motor Museum. Regrettably, it was dismantled in 1973. The lamp is a post-war version (not the original) made circa 1950 when the car was used in the “Golden Arrow.” Approx. 21” high with 6” diameter base. Fitted with an original pink Perspex shade which has a split. Refitted for operation at 240V AC (not tested). Lamp in VGC.£450
42PULLMAN CAR SILVERPLATE TOAST RACK manufactured by Walker & Hall Sheffield. Compartments for four slices of toast with a centrally mounted ring carrying handle. Elongated oval shape base 5¼” x 3” standing on four ball feet, 5¼” high. The “Pullman Car Company” round crest is clearly incised on one end of the base. VGC.£140
43WAGONS-LITS BRASS ASHTRAY. 5⅜” diameter tray with an art-nouveau shell-like pattern around the edges and provision for resting four cigarettes. The intertwined initials “WL” are embossed in the bowl. Stands on a vulcanized rubber ring to prevent movement in service. Wagons-Lits operated luxury trains all over Europe in the early and mid 20th Century and still operate sleeping cars on overnight international expresses. Good condition.£140
44PULLMAN CAR SILVERPLATE EGG CUP AND SPOON manufactured by Elkington. The cup is integral with the base, the spoon separate but is clipped to the rim of the cup. 3⅝” diameter base, 2¾” high. The “Pullman Car Company” round crest is clearly incised in the side of the cup and on the handle of the spoon. Both items are in VGC. (2)£200
45PAINTED METAL CARRIAGE BOARD: “FLÈCHE D’OR” (Golden Arrow) with right pointing three-flight arrow. Finished in dark brown with cream lettering and arrow shaded in black. Fitted with four holes which hooked onto fixings on the coach side. The board dates from 1951. There was a ‘French’ and ‘English’ version either end. They were used extensively in the 1950s and 1960s but by the 1970s rarely. From possibly the most famous of Pullman Trains which ran daily between London Victoria – Paris Gare du Nord until 1972. 80” x 6½” in ex-vehicle condition. £450

49SHEDPLATE: 33A PLAISTOW (1949 – November 1959, then sub of 33B). Between 1948 and 1949 this ex LT&SR shed was in the London Midland Region (13A), before being transferred to the Eastern Region. In the 1950s its allocation exceeded 80 locos. Ex-loco condition. A rare example.£500
50LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: “CLAN MACKINTOSH” as carried by BR Standard “Clan” class 6 4-6-2 Pacific loco 72007 built at Crewe in March 1952 and delivered new to Carlisle Kingmoor where it stayed for the remainder of its short career. Withdrawn in December 1965 and broken up at G.H. Campbell of Airdrie. Cast brass, 57½” x 6” basically ex-loco condition, the lettering untouched since removal from the loco, a small section of the red background paint blistered at the base only.£21000
51GWR HOTELS SILVERPLATE FLOWER VASE manufactured by Elkington. 2¾” diameter base, standing 8” high. The GWR coat of arms and wording “Great Western Railway Hotels” within scroll are clearly incised on the side. VGC.£280
52CARRIAGE PRINT: HASTINGS SUSSEX by Frank Sherwin from the Southern Region series (B) issued 1956. A scarce view of boats being repaired on the beach with children playing, the cliffs beyond silhouetted against billowing clouds. In an original glazed wooden frame and in VGC.£100
53BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY Ltd Glasgow No. 28039 1961” as carried by the 0-4-0 225HP diesel hydraulic loco built to Order L105 and delivered new to NCB South Wales at Blaenavon Colliery. Transferred to Tymawr Colliery around April 1967, then to Bargoed Colliery in 1968 and finally Mountain Ash Colliery in July 1976. Scrapped on site in June 1980. Diamond shape, 13½” x 5½” lightly polished front only, back ex-loco.£100
54SOUTH AFRICAN RAILWAYS BI-LINGUAL BRASS CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE: 2391 GF from 3ft 6in gauge 4-6-2+2-6-4 Garratt of class GF, built by Hanomag as 10533 of 1927 for lighter duties. Oval, 20½” x 14⅜” attractively repainted front in red and blue, brasswork lightly polished only, the back in ex-loco condition.£500
55BR(NE) ENAMEL STREET DIRECTION SIGN: “BRITISH RAILWAYS (in totem) HEATON STATION” in tangerine with deep colour and shine, white lettering and left pointing two-flight arrow. An ex-NER North Tyneside suburban station opened in July 1847, closed August 1980. Fully flanged, 25” x 13” excellent condition.£920
56SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 45698 as carried by the LMS 4-6-0 “Jubilee” 5XP (later 6P) class loco 5698 built at Crewe, Works No 296 in April 1936. Named “MARS” from new. Renumbered 45698 by BR from September 1948. A long-time Bank Hall allocation from where it was withdrawn in November 1965 and cut up at Wards, Beighton. Repainted front to good condition, the back in ex-loco condition.£3000
57LNER CORONATION PATTERN SILVERPLATE MUSTARD POT manufactured by Walker & Hall Sheffield. Octagonal design, the base 1⅞” x 1⅞”, height 1⅝”. Comes complete with the internal blue glass lining and spoon. The stylised initials “LNER” are clearly incised on the side and also on the spoon. Signs of use, but good generally. (3)£320
58LYNTON & BARNSTAPLE RAILWAY: TYER’S BRASS FACED SINGLE-LINE TABLET for the section “WOODA BAY – LYNTON 10” with section names engraved around the central square. Running between Lynton and Barnstaple this narrow gauge line was incorporated in June 1895 opening to traffic on 16th May 1898. The railway was purchased by the Southern Railway on 1st July 1923 and closed entirely by the same company on 30th September 1935. Note: This is the penultimate in the set of five tablets, covering the entire line to be offered in this and the following auction. Good ex-section condition.£2450

An ex-LSWR station between Barnstaple Junction and Bideford opened in November 1855, closed to regular traffic October 1965. A scarce totem, rarely seen at auction.£1200
61LNER 1 pint SILVERPLATE COCKTAIL SHAKER manufactured by Gladwin, Sheffield. This is the scarcer version with integrated shredder, handle and spout with cork bung on a chain. The initials “LNER” in script clearly incised below the spout. Stands 8½” tall and in VGC.£260
62CARRIAGE PRINT: GLAMIS CASTLE ANGUS by Edward Lawson from the Scottish Region series 1956-57. A summer afternoon view of the castle frontage with its many turrets. In an original glazed and painted wooden frame. Good condition.£50
63BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “LMS BUILT 1921 STOKE” as carried by an ex-NSR 0-6-2T new “L” class which bore the NSR numbers 18, 22, 25, 26 and 29. The works numbers were 183 to 187. They became LMS 2263 to 2267. All had been withdrawn from LMS stock by 1936 and some sold to private collieries. Oval, 10½” x 6” in ex-loco condition. NOTE: This is not the same plate as offered in our September 2007 auction.£1000

65LMS SIGNALBOX BOARD: CHATTERLEY JUNCT. An ex-NSR location on the main line between Stoke-on-Trent – Kidsgrove, once a busy junction serving three collieries, goods station and a passenger service to Keele. The station closed in September 1948. The box was a North Staffordshire Railway Type 2 design fitted with a 47 lever McKenzie & Holland 1873 Patent frame and closed in 1966 with the Harecastle diversion and electrification of the line. 83” x 10½” in fine ex-box condition.£650
66ALUMINIUM DIAMOND DEPOT PLAQUE FOR THORNABY DEPOT showing the “Kingfisher” logo. 17¾” x 17¾”, the front has been repainted and lightly polished, the back has been cleaned, but still bears much evidence of having been carried by one of the fleet of class 08, 37, 47 and 56 diesel locomotives allocated to this depot from the late 1980s. 67SHEDPLATE: 71G BATH (S&D) (1950 – February 1958, later 82F) WEYMOUTH (February 1958 – September 1963, previously 82F, later 70G). This ex S&DJR shed came under BR(M) as 22C until transfer to BR(S) in 1950. It was then transferred to a third region, BR(W), when it became 82F in 1958, swapping identities with Weymouth. This ex GWR, BR(W) shed was then further recoded in 1963 when it changed from 71G to 70G. It finally closed in July 1967. While 71G Bath Green Park had an allocation of around 50 locos, Weymouth’s allocation in 1959 was just 21 ex-GWR locos with not one ex-SR example despite being a Southern shed. 77BTC “LION HOLDING WHEEL” LOCOMOTIVE CREST in cast aluminium. These very attractive motifs were originally affixed to the sides of the then new 25kv AC Overhead Electric Locomotives (Classes AL1-AL5, later classes 81-85) constructed for the Euston – Manchester and Liverpool electrification from 1958 onwards. They were replaced by the later BR “double-arrow” symbol in the mid 1960s. Mounted on board 18¼” x 18¼” overall, verified serial numbers cast and stamped in the back and in excellent condition.£500
78MIDLAND GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY (IRELAND). A large Webb & Thompson Electric TRAIN STAFF with the section names “Castlebar - Westport” engraved on brass plates attached at one end.. A section on the Claremorris – Westport Town line opened in May 1862 and still open today. Westport signal box is still open, Castlebar signal box was closed in November 1988. 23” long, the brass rings around the central steel column are approx 2¼” diameter. Good, ex-section condition.£100
79LONDON & NORTH WESTERN RAILWAY 14” dial single fusee CLOCK the dial written “L&NWR Joyce Whitchurch” the paint is a little crazed and has been touched-in. Ornate wood carving around the clock face, slight damage between the XII and I. There is no LMSR plated number, but the number “3196” has been roughly scratched into the pendulum. The movement is marked “Joyce 27M”. The lot is accompanied by a letter dated January 1982 from the original clockmakers confirming that this was the 27th clock sold to the LNWR and they date it to around 1900. However there is a marking inside the box which appears to say “JBJ-Jan 4 1881” so it could be earlier. In full working order and complete with pendulum and winder.£700

81LONDON MIDLAND & SCOTTISH & SOUTHERN RAILWAYS – SOMERSET & DORSET JOINT RAILWAY bronze shield on wood “FOR SUCCESS IN THE QUOTA LEAGUE.” An annual award presented to stations and depots, in this case “Passenger League 1 1938 Blandford” which is engraved on one of two supplementary plates at each side of the shield. Blandford Forum station closed along with the rest of the line in March 1966. The manufacturer’s original label giving cleaning instructions still present on the back. Transferred to Handen Hold Colliery in 1957 and then back to Beamish by August 1961. Denamed by February 1968 when loco went to Morrison Busty Colliery. Loco sold to the North of England Open Air Museum in March 1972. Oval, 13½” x 8” face lightly polished only the back ex-loco.£2550
84TYER’S No 6 ALUMINIUM SINGLE LINE TABLET: “ANGEL ROAD JUNCTION – EDMONTON JUNCTION 15” from the ex-GER branch which connected the Lea Valley line to the Enfield Town and Southbury loop line permitting through running from that part of North East London to and from Temple Mills and the London Docks. There was one intermediate station at Lower Edmonton Low Level which closed in September 1939. The line fell into disuse in the 1960s and was eventually lifted. Good ex-section condition.£70

86SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 62734 as carried by the LNER 4-4-0 D49/1 “Shire” class loco No 2759 built at Darlington in May 1929 and named “CUMBERLAND” Renumbered 2734 from November 1946, 62734 by BR from September 1948. Withdrawn in March 1961 from Carlisle and always allocated there. Repainted on both sides, the plate has been weld repaired and is also drilled with a metal plate at the back. Nevertheless, a rare plate and one of only a few survivors from this class. Would benefit from further restoration. NOTE: The nameplate “Cumberland” was sold by us in our December 2004 auction.£750

97LNER ENAMEL LOCO DEPOT ALLOCATION PLATE: “STAVELEY.” This shed was opened in 1892 by the Great Central Railway. After the Grouping this plate was used from around the mid 1920s, being affixed to the inside of the cab roof. The shed was closed in June 1965 as BR(E) 41H. Black lettering on white, 10” x 1⅜” with curved ends in excellent condition. A rare example.N/S
98NER Tyer’s mahogany cased Train Describing BLOCK INSTRUMENT. The front top segmented dial has a total of 16 labels, 15 of which have been allocated with descriptions including “Thro’ Express for KEB”, “NB or B&T”, Blackhill or Leamside”, West Line or Sunderland”, “Newburn or Shields”, Annfield or Dunston”, etc. The bottom dial, which mimics all of the locations in the top dial, has holes for a peg (attached to a chain) to be inserted which activates a clockwork mechanism and the appropriate description is passed to the next box. Appears to be from a signalbox to the south of Newcastle on Tyne, such as Gateshead. 12” wide, 20” high, 7” deep. A very rare instrument in VGC.£2200

Renumbered 2745 in October 1946 and BR 62745 in May 1949. Withdrawn in March 1959 from Scarborough and cut up at Darlington. Cast brass, 33” x 12½” with right facing fox, which appears to be a 1950s BR replacement for the original, which was either broken or stolen. Nevertheless, a superb example. The nameplate is offered complete with matching brass 9” x 5” worksplate “London & North Eastern Railway Darlington Works 1932,” the original number “282” at the centre ground off and replaced with a brass strip bearing the number “62745.” Both items in good ex-loco condition. The hunt operated in the Croft Spa – Northallerton area of Yorkshire. (2)£17000

West Pennard signal box closed in August 1964 and the Evercreech Junction North to Glastonbury And Street token section came into existence. In VGC, the lettering has been re-engraved, but is still a very desirable item from this long lamented line.£240

The initials “SE&CR” and the number “1014” are written on the repainted dial. The number “1014” is stamped on the back case and also appears on a small brass plate inside the side door. The clock was located at Dover Harbour Parcels Office which closed in July 1927. It was later allocated to Dover Priory Parcels Office. In full working order and complete with pendulum and winder.N/S

As carried by carriages jointly owned by the NBR, NER and GNR operating between Kings Cross – Edinburgh – Glasgow and Aberdeen. The three companies became part of the LNER on 1st January 1923 whence the title disappeared. Very attractive and in VGC. (2)£280

125LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: “COLOSSUS” as carried by the BR Co-Co 2580HP diesel-electric type 4 loco D1672 built at Crewe entering service at Canton in March 1965. Named “COLOSSUS” at Cardiff without ceremony in August 1965. Renumbered 47086 in January 1974 class 47/0. The nameplates went missing in 1978, but reappeared in 1982 and were re-fitted. They were officially removed when loco was renumbered 47641 in March 1986. The name was also applied to loco 47564 (possibly unofficially) at Tinsley in October 1986, but was removed by June 1991. Colossus was one of the seven wonders of the world, a bronze statue set in the entrance to Rhodes harbour and destroyed by an earthquake in 225BC. The plate was cast at Swindon in aluminum, 44” x 8½” in ex-loco condition front and back, the back bearing the chalk mark “47086 – LHS”. The original black is showing underneath the later red paint.£3500

The glazed dials, one in the wooden case, one in a supplementary steel case above, are for “Down Line” and “Up Line” and are enamel plated. At the centre of each dial are the moveable aspects reading “locked “ and “unlocked.” Unfortunately there is no indication which signalbox the instrument originated from, but is typical of the type employed by the LB&SCR in the South London area. 10½” wide, 24” high, 6½” deep. 134GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY skeleton type TICKET DATE PRESS. Base 6” x 4¼” and 7½” high, in full working order in VGC and complete with drum of dates.£320
135HEADBOARD: “THE HOOK CONTINENTAL.” Cast aluminium, the face has been attractively restored to the original dark blue background with the letters and surround lightly polished only. The two painted vignettes show the Union Jack and the flag of Holland which have been left untouched. The back has a fixing bracket and has been painted, probably by Stratford depot. The thickness of paint prevents positive identification, but the names “The Norfolkman,” “The Day Continental,” and “The Heart of Midlothian” amongst others, appear on the back. These were other plates cast to the same specifications. With its origins in GER days “The Hook Continental” ran each evening from Liverpool Street to Harwich Parkeston Quay and every morning in the reverse direction running non-stop, connecting with the nightly sailings to and from the Hook of Holland. The service ceased in December 2006. Overall measurements are 40” x 14” and in VGC. See also Lot 136.£3100
136ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING: “THE HOOK CONTINENTAL” passing Colchester in the late 1950s hauled by English Electric 1Co-Co1 diesel-electric locomotive D204 by S. Anderson commissioned in 2002. The loco was a 2000HP diesel electric type 4 built at Vulcan Foundry Works No 2371/VFD399 and entered traffic in May 1958 at Stratford. The loco was renumbered 40004 class 40 in March 1974 and withdrawn in September 1984 from Longsight. Cut up at Crewe Works in September 1986. The scene is of the train running in the “Down” direction on a summer’s evening, the driver just opening up after passing through the tortuous curves at the west end of the station prior to the early 1960s remodelling. 40” x 28” in VGC. 137TWO WOODEN OFFICE CHAIRS: One is a standard MR with the initial “M” cut into the back rail. The other is an LNWR chair which is stamped “LNWR” underneath the seat. Also present is the word “Lancaster” but it is partly covered by a modern support which has been added to give the seat additional strength. Both are approx 34” high, 17” deep, 19” wide and have been re-padded and re-upholstered to good condition. (2)£65
138TYER’S NO 6 BRASS SINGLE LINE TABLET: “ROXBURGH JCT – KELSO 22” from the ex-NBR St Boswells – Kelso (Tweed Valley) line which closed in June 1964. Kelso was jointly owned with the NER which ran services through to Tweedmouth. Roxburgh Junction was the junction for the Jedburgh branch which closed in August 1948. The Roxburgh Junction to Kelso token section came into existence in December 1933 when the line between the two signal boxes was singled, and ceased to exist in December 1964 when Roxburgh Junction signal closed and the token section was extended to between Maxton and Kelso. Good ex-section condition.£480

148GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY. A large Webb & Thompson Electric TRAIN STAFF brass labelled at one end for the section Saundersfoot – Templeton on the Whitland – Pembroke Dock line. The section appears to have ceased by 1969. 25½” long, the brass rings around the central steel column are approx 2¼” diameter, with a key at one end to operate a ground frame within the section. Ex-section condition and a little rusty.£220

The nameplate measures 67” x 14¾” in VGC, the lettering and full beading lightly polished only, the back in ex-loco condition with the number “6823” chalked on. Complete with matching BRASS CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE “6823” which, although the surround has been repainted in a different shade of green, retains the original black painted background to the numerals with orange edging. The back is in ex-loco condition. Latterly a Truro and finally an Oxley (Wolverhampton) allocation. Withdrawn in June 1965 and broken up at Birds, Long Marston in November 1965. Retained the number 8 in LNER days but became class EB1 in 1923. Renumbered LNER 6495 in May 1946 and BR 26507 in 1948 class EF1 (thought to mean “Experimental Freight”). Withdrawn from South Gosforth in August 1950. Towed to Wanty & Co., Catcliffe, Sheffield for scrapping in February 1951 and cut up in July that year. Restored to VGC in green with copper lettering on the front, the back cleaned. Slight damage to left-hand bolt hole sustained when removed from engine. The legend “No 8 Electric NER” has been painted on the back. The plate was fitted to the nose end of the loco in place of the original NER number plate. Extremely rare.£1600

Both parts are clearly incised “GWR (in script) surrounded by “Tregenna Castle Hotel” in garter and in VGC. The Tregenna Castle Hotel located at St Ives, Cornwall, was originally built in 1874 and leased to the GWR in 1878, eventually bought outright by them in 1895. Additions to the building were made in 1932. One of the hotels sold off in 1983, purchased by Batchshire Ltd (a Sea Containers subsidiary) and still open today.£350

197NORTH BRITISH RAILWAY three-aspect HANDLAMP clearly stamped “NBR – 1859 – 5671S - Wormit” and bearing a large brass label Hendry Bothers, Great Clyde Street, Glasgow. The reducing cone is also stamped “NBR.” The innards comprise a vessel stamped “Kerosene,” “LNE” burner and reflector. Internal glasses are present and complete. Bevel-edged front lens with brass rim. From an ex-NBR station on the Tayport branch opened in May 1879, closed May 1969. The lamp is in exceptional, original, undamaged, unrestored condition.£320

216BUS CONDUCTOR’S HANGING BADGE in brass with a leather strap to fit to a jacket button. Unusually the badge is reversible, one side reading: “Borough of Lowestoft Conductor No 18”; on the other side: “Borough of Southwold Conductor No. 76.” From the Great Eastern Railway Lowestoft – Southwold motor bus service which commenced in June 1904 and was taken over by United Automobile Services in January 1913. The GER built 12 buses at Stratford and it is believed the badge was cast there also. It is odd that Southwold apparently had more conductors than Lowestoft being the larger town, but in those early days, Lowestoft may have adopted a different system of registration. The badge is accompanied by a framed B&W photograph of one of the buses on the route. Both items in VGC. (2)£140

Brass plated “Up Line” and “Norwich” from the ex-GER station, opened by the Eastern Counties Railway in March 1849, still open today. The instrument has been cleaned and varnished and is in excellent condition.£95
225LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: “VULCAN ENTERPRISE” as carried by the BR Co-Co 1750HP type 3 diesel-electric loco D6836 built by English Electric Vulcan Foundry, Works No EE3281/VFD810, entering traffic at Cardiff Canton in April 1963. Renumbered 37136 in February 1974 class 37/0, and later 37905 in December 1986 class 37/9. The loco was named “VULCAN ENTERPRISE” at Cardiff Canton on 3rd February 1987 by Jim Mackinnon, Managing Director of Ruston Diesels, and named to cement the relationship between Railfreight and Ruston Diesels following the fitting of an experimental power unit to the loco. Loco went to store unserviceable in January 1997 and nameplates removed in March 1997. Following component recovery and store, the loco was eventually sold to the Dartmoor Light Railway and moved to Meldon Quarry in February 2006. Cast Aluminum, 64½” x 9⅞” in totally ex-loco condition front and back.£2720

South Blyth closed first (May 1967) followed four months later by North Blyth. A combined total of around 50 locos were allocated here in the final few years of operation. Renumbered 46205 by BR. Finally withdrawn from Crewe North in November 1961. 258CAST IRON TENDERPLATE: “GWR 3036 SWINDON 3000 Gallons” with 4½ tons coal capacity this tender was designed by Collett and built to Lot A169 between October 1944 – September 1945 and was mainly used behind 0-6-0s of 2251 class or occasionally with a “Bulldog” 4-4-0. 8½” x 6” the front in ex-loco condition, the back appears to have been varnished over the rust.£100

Muir of Ord lost its passenger services in June 1960, but were restored in June 1976. The Dingwall to Muir of Ord token section ceased to exist in August 1988 when the line became controlled by radio electric token block from Inverness signal box. The tablet originally read “Dingwall South” but the suffix was erased when the section was changed. VGC.£450

266SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 48268 as carried by the Stanier designed 2-8-0 loco for the WD originally destined for Turkey as WD 555. Built by North British Loco Co to Lot 176, Works No 24758 in 1942. Transferred to LMS stock later the same year as a class 8F and became LMS 8268 in November 1945. Renumbered 48268 at Nationalisation. A long-time Merseyside engine, withdrawn from Edge Hill in October 1967. Cut up at J Buttigieg of Newport. Repainted front over the original paint, some time ago, the back in ex-loco condition.£450
267LNER ENAMEL LOCO DEPOT ALLOCATION PLATE: “GORTON.” This ex-MS&LR shed, found within the area occupied by Gorton works was constructed in 1879. This plate was fitted inside the cab of one of its locos during the 1920s. In BR(E) days it became 39A and then changed to the LMR (9H then 9G), closure coming in June 1965. Black lettering on white, 10” x 1⅜” with curved ends in VGC, although a little faded and with a couple of touched-in chips only. A rare example.£350

273ENGRAVED BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATE: “No 1868 DONCASTER 1938” as carried by the A4 class 4-6-2 Pacific loco 4466 which entered service in January 1938, originally named “HERRING GULL.” On 6th January 1944 the loco was renamed “SIR RALPH WEDGWOOD” which had been cut up at Doncaster after receiving severe bomb damage following an enemy air raid at York station on 29th April 1942. Renumbered 605 in January 1946, and 6 soon after, finally 60006 by BR in December 1948. A long-time King’s Cross allocation before migrating north to New England and finally Ferryhill from where it was withdrawn in September 1965 and cut up at Motherwell Machinery & Scrap Co., Wishaw. The wording “London North Eastern Railway Co” was filled in during early BR days, but is still evident. Oval, 13¼” x 7½” lightly polished face only, the back ex-loco and stamped with the number “4466.” NOTE: The Nameplate “Sir Ralph Wedgwood” was sold at our September 2007 auction.£10200

Renumbered 86027 in December 1973 class 86/0, later 86327 class 86/3 in June 1980, later still 86427 class 86/4 in May 1985. Named “THE INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY” at Euston on 16th July 1985 and renumbered yet again 86627 in September 1989. The nameplates were removed in June 1999. The loco is still in service with Freightliner. Cast Aluminum, 80½” x 9⅞” in totally ex-loco condition front and back. NOTE: This will be the only opportunity to obtain this name as the other plate was presented to the Industrial Society.£2000

278BRASS SINGLE LINE KEY TOKEN: “KELSO JCT – MAXTON 18” from the ex-NBR St Boswells – Kelso (Tweed Valley) line which closed in June 1964. The Kelso Junction to Maxton section was introduced when Maxton signal box was opened in 1915 and ceased to exist in February 1932 when Maxton signal box was reduced to a gate box and the section was extended to between Kelso Junction and Roxburgh Junction boxes. The Kelso Junction to Maxton to section came back into use on 3rd November 1942 when Maxton became a token station again, and finally ceased to exist in March 1965 when Maxton box closed. Good ex-section condition, the end fully covered in original red paint.£420

298ALUMINIUM SINGLE LINE KEY TOKEN: “COPPLESTONE – MORCHARD RD” from the ex-LSWR section between Yeoford Junction and Lapford on the Exeter – Barnstaple Junction line opened in August 1854 and still open today. The Copplestone to Morchard Road token section ceased to exist in March 1964 when Morchard Road signal box closed and the token section was extended to between Copplestone and Eggesford. Good ex-section condition with traces of red paint.£140
299GREAT EASTERN RAILWAY ENAMEL DOORPLATE: “BOOKING OFFICE” in dark blue with white lettering, good colour and shine, although having a little edge chipping. Flangeless, 18” x 7” originally housed within a wooden frame. Unusual serif lettering with a neat border ½” from the edges. Recovered from the station at Swaffham Prior on the Cambridge – Mildenhall branch which closed in June 1962.£110
300NAMEPLATE: “MANSTON BATTLE OF BRITAIN CLASS” from the SR 4-6-2 Pacific loco numbered 21C170 built at Brighton in November 1947 to an O.V.S. Bulleid design with air-smoothed casing. Renumbered “S21C170” by BR at Nationalisation, but soon renumbered again to 34070 from March 1949. This was the last loco of the class to have the “21C” numbering system applied. Originally allocated to the South Eastern Division, the loco transferred to Exmouth Junction in November 1961 where it spent the rest of its days. Withdrawn in August 1964 and sent to D Woodham, Barry for scrapping in December 1964, but was sold to the “21C170 Manston Preservation Group” in June 1983 at Richborough Power Station. The loco was the 146th to be rescued from Barry for preservation. The loco is now at the Swanage Railway since being transferred from AJR Birch & Co at Hope Farm, Sellinge, Ashford. 54” x 9” (at widest) repainted in light blue, lettering lightly polished only, ex-loco condition back. The nameplate is accompanied by the original BADGE, 28” x 22” in turquoise enamel with brass rim bearing the RAF coat of arms depicting the royal crown and winged sword emblem as carried by the Bulleid designed 4-6-2 Pacific locomotives of the class that were not specifically named after a squadron. In VGC overall, the enamel still reasonably shiny with all the colours strong and clear. A rare chance to own such an excellent set. (2)N/S

This very collectable poster dates from 1939. Framed and glazed and in VGC. The regiment is amongst the oldest in the British Army and is famous for its ceremonial duties.£420

The firm became BP Chemicals (UK) Ltd and loco moved to their Elworth works. Scrapped on site by J&H Coppenhall of Sandbach around March 1967.. Cast brass, 25” x 6¾” fully flanged convex and reduced half way along the length to facilitate fitting to the tank sides.£520

When Shrewsbury shed was transferred from BR(W) to BR(M), it was given this code (9/63) until closure to steam in 3/67. Over 40 engines were allocated at this time. Renumbered LNER 1361 in 1923 class Q6, later 3367 in April 1946 and finally BR 63367 in November 1948. Withdrawn from Sunderland in August 1964 and cut up by George Cohen at Cargo Fleet. In keeping with many other examples, the number “3367” has been ground off, but is still clearly visible. Lightly polished front, ex-loco condition back.£100

Sold to Booth Roe Metals, Rotherham, for scrap in early 1992. Oval 11” x 6” face repainted, some score marks to the rim, the back cleaned.£110

345TOTEM: HALIFAX BR(NE) fully flanged tangerine in VGC with deep colour and shine, a couple of minor edge chips one extending (just) into the tangerine at the bottom, a little repainted edge rusting otherwise. An ex-L&YR station between Hebden Bridge and Bradford opened in August 1850, renamed Halifax Old in June 1890, Halifax Town in September 1951, the suffix dropped in June 1961 and still open today. A much sought-after totem without the “Town” suffix.£2600
346MASHONALAND RAILWAY BRASS LOCOMOTIVE SMOKEBOX ROUNDEL bearing the initials “MR” as carried by a locomotive from the 3ft 6in gauge Mashonaland Railways which were taken over by Rhodesian Railways in 1937 although not fully absorbed until 1949. A 4-8-2 is the most likely candidate. Circular with ornate lettering, 11” in diameter, slightly convex to fit smokebox door, a few knocks and scrapes evident. Face repainted and lightly polished, the back in ex-loco condition. Less common than the “RR” equivalent.£260
347IRISH TELEGRAPH POLE NOTICE: “PERSONS THROWING STONES AT THE TELEGRAPHS WILL BE PROSECUTED.” This being the English translation shown on this dual language sign, from the Gaelic. Not strictly railwayana, but as it was removed from a telegraph pole on the MGWR Westport – Achill line in 1923, it has been inckuded. Green with cream lettering, original condition with one or two face chips, 11¼” x 6¼” curved to fit the pole.£100

363A COLLECTION OF SEVEN BRASS PLATES as removed from the Air Ministry Locomotive AMW 206, a Ruston & Hornsby 4-wheel diesel mechanical 44-48HP 2’0” gauge loco Works No 203016. Delivered to Air Ministry depot Fauld, Staffs, then transferred to Langwith, Lakenheath by 1946, then Pulham near Diss from 1948 – 1955 after which it returned to Fauld. Sold to Wm Bush & Co Alfreton in 1968. In 1973 it was sold on to Hollycombe Railway, Liphook for preservation. The plates include the fleet number AMW 206, Oil Pressure plate, Engine plate, Air Ministry plate, etc. All are mounted on a polished mahogany board and in VGC. (7)N/S
364LNER BRASS LOCOMOTIVE WHISTLE. An LNER group standard whistle, 14” high x 8½” wide (overall) x 5¼” diameter base, ex-loco condition. The original owner has labelled it as being from the 4-6-0 B1 class loco “REEDBUCK” numbered 61031 by BR at Nationalisation. The BR receipt accompanies the whistle.£400
365BR(S) ENAMEL STREET DIRECTION SIGN: “BRITISH RAILWAYS (in totem) PRESTON PARK STATION” in green with deep colour and shine, white lettering and left pointing two-flight arrow. An ex-LB&SCR station in Brighton, opened as Preston in November 1869, renamed in July 1879, still open today. Fully flanged, 25” x 13” excellent condition.£1200
366SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 84019 from the BR standard 2-6-2T class 2 loco built at Crewe in October 1953 and delivered to Bury. In 1965 the loco was transferred to Eastleigh for working on the Isle of Wight, but soon returned to the LMR for immediate withdrawal. Withdrawn in December 1965 and cut up at Arnott Young, Parkgate. Repainted front and back a long time ago. As a new locomotive, it had the distinction of hauling the brand new Riddles 8P Standard locomotive 71000 “Duke of Gloucester” from Crewe to Euston for its naming ceremony.£2200

The Leek Brook Junction to Milton Junction token section came into existence when Endon signal box closed in December 1973, and ceased to exist in May 1987 when Milton Junction signal box was closed. The section names have been re-engraved, but is in good ex-section condition with traces of blue paint.£400

One of the last European steam types still in service into the 1980s. The class plate is 14¼ x 6¼”, the running number plate is 10½” x 6¼”. Both are in filthy ex-loco condition.£300

The back shows the painted number “34029” an SR 4-6-2 Pacific “West Country” class loco originally numbered 21C129 and named “LUNDY” built at Brighton in May 1946. Renumbered S21C129 by BR and 34029 in February 1949. Rebuilt at Eastleigh in December 1958. Withdrawn in September 1964 and cut up by P Wood of Queenborough. The loco ran 828,489 miles in service.£150

388GREAT EASTERN RAILWAY. A large Webb & Thompson Electric TRAIN STAFF with the section names “Bps Stortford - Dunmow” engraved on a brass plate at one end.. A section on the Bishops Stortford – Braintree – Witham line which closed to passengers between Braintree and Bishops Stortford in March 1952, but remained open for freight traffic and the occasional excursion. The line was truncated to Easton Lodge to serve Geest Bananas, but this traffic ceased altogether in the mid-1970s. 23” long, the brass rings around the central steel column are approx 2¼” diameter. Good, ex-section condition.£100
389SHEFFIELD DISTRICT RAILWAY framed and glazed COLOURED PLAN of Attercliffe Goods Station. Scale 1ch:1” highly detailed showing sidings and sheds and the relationship with the Midland Railway. The plan was drawn for the GCR in April 1921. The Sheffield District Railway was incorporated in August 1896, its lines were leased to the LD&ECR which itself was amalgamated into the GCR in January 1907. Grouped into the LNER in 1923. 42” x 33” in a modern frame. It is difficult to find anything bearing this title.£110

400LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: “GRANADA TELETHON” as carried by BR A1A-A1A 1250HP type 2 D5669 built by Brush Traction Loughborough works No 269 entering service in November 1960. Renumbered 31410 in February 1974 class 31/4. To store at Crewe in April 1992 and reinstated a month later. Named “GRANADA TELETHON” at Manchester Victoria on 17th June 1992 by the actor Paul Nicholas in support of an annual charity appeal. Loco derailed and dumped at Carnforth in February 1997. To store in May 1997, later withdrawn awaiting disposal. Loco was booked to move to MC Metals Glasgow in April 1998, but move was cancelled and loco remained at Carnforth until at least July 2002. The loco is now preserved at Kirby Stephen. The name is on two lines with the “Granada” television logo at the side against a blue background. Cast aluminium 59½” x 14¾” in ex-loco condition front and back.£580

414HIGHLAND RAILWAY windlass and chain SIGNAL LAMP INTERIOR from Golspie. A product of Messrs McKenzie & Holland, this very rare lamp has brass fittings and a brass burner. Golspie is located on the ex-HR “Far North Line” between Inverness – Wick and was opened in April 1868. 12” high. Complete and in VGC.£350
415LMS SIGNALBOX BOARD: ASTBURYS SIDINGS. This was a 29 lever North Staffordshire Railway signal box located on the Kidsgrove to Macclesfield line.  It was reduced to a non-block post in 1965 and closed completely in 1969. 84” x 10½” restored to VGC.£400
416BRASS LOCOMOTIVE PLAQUE bearing the stylised “Red Indian” symbol of  the manufacturer “Skoda” and carried by some locomotives of this Czech builder.  The legend “Vanoce 1976 and the number 534,321 has been scratched on the back by the railway.  From a standard gauge 2-10-0 of the CSD [Czechoslovakia State Railways] of class 534 built by Skoda as their 1646 of 1946. Circular 14” diameter, the front repainted, brass polished a score across the middle, the back in ex-loco condition.£170
417SHEDPLATE: 65J FORT WILLIAM (May 1955 – June 1960, previously 63D, later 63B) STIRLING (June 1960 – December 1966, previously 63B). The only Scottish code  with a letter "J" Fort William, an ex- NBR, LNER and BR(Sc) shed, had a small allocation of around 15 locos during this period. Stirling, the ex-CR, LMS and BR(Sc) shed, had an allocation of 30 in 1960 and by closure it was home to just 9 Black 5s. A scarce example, unpainted front, ex-loco condition back.£200

Ltd Darlington 1925 No. 3905” as carried by LNER 0-6-2T ordered by the GER as class L77 and delivered as No 941class N7 in November 1925 with condensing gear which was removed in September 1936. Renumbered LNER 9660 in August 1946 and BR 69660 in September 1948. Withdrawn from Stratford in May 1959 and cut up there. Hexagonal, 11¼” x 5¼” cleaned front and back.£400

421CZECHOSLOVAK STATE RAILWAYS [CSD] ENAMEL SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 434.184 in red with white numbers and edging from standard gauge 2-8-0 of class 434, built by Bohemish-Mahrische [predecessor to CKD] as their construction number 175 of 1919. This design was originally produced as the 270 class by the Austro-Hungarian empire. 21½” x 8” in good condition with a couple of roughly repaired face chips, the back in ex-loco condition.£100

423LMS CENTRAL HOTEL GLASGOW wooden WRITING TABLE with inlaid leatherette writing surface on top and a single drawer underneath. Clearly stamped "LMS Central Hotel Glasgow Room 322" on the back panel. The hotel adjoining Glasgow Central station was opened by the Caledonian Railway in 1885 and was sold by the BRB to Virani Group UK in 1983, still in use today. 32½" x 20" top, 30" high. Good condition.£70
424NORTH BRITISH RAILWAY Bulpitt three-aspect HANDLAMP clearly stamped “NBR” and brass labelled “Bulpitt & Sons Birmingham 1919” just below it. The innards comprise an unmarked vessel, burner and reflector. All internal glasses are present and complete. Bevel-edged front lens. Good, original condition throughout.£95
425LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE: WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF CARMEN as carried by the BR Bo-Bo 2250HP diesel-electric HST power car Unit No 253031 built at Crewe to Lot 30941. Entered service at St Philips Marsh in October 1979. Transferred to locomotive stock in November 1988 as class 43 No 43132. Named on 6th October 1987 at Paddington by the Princess Royal who was master of the ancient livery company. This is the original reflective nameplate with a black background and silver lettering which was replaced in June 1991 with a silver background with black lettering. The second nameplate was removed in February 1996. The power car is still in use with First Great Western at Landore. Stainless steel, 59” x 5” the front cleaned only, the back in ex-loco condition.£750

A BR Internal Traffic label on the back states that it was hung at The Medical Centre 12 Pancras Road [London]. No doubt it gave pleasure to those waiting to see the railway doctor. Framed, but no glass, the image having been varnished, 25½” x 34 (frame size) in VGC.£160
428CHROMED SINGLE LINE KEY TOKEN: “FIRBECK JUNCT – TICK HILL 29” from the ex-South Yorkshire Joint Line section which closed to passenger services in July 1929, although freight has been passing for a long time since. The token section ceased to exist in May 1970 when Tickhill box closed. Good original condition although the circular end with hole end has received a bit of a battering.£75

This ex-GCR and LMS shed was transferred from BR(M) to BR(W) in 1958 when Chester (GWR) took over the code. Upon closure in April 1960 the code was then used by Oswestry from September 1963 until closure. The first two sheds had allocations of around 50 locos. Repainted front, back in ex-loco condition.£75

An ornate black marble and brass 5” diameter dial single fusee chiming PRESENTATION CLOCK the movement engraved WBK & Fils, Paris and the number “8284.” A small engraved brass plaque on the front reads “Presented by the Staff of Bangour to Mr Wm. Tait as a Token of Their Respect After Ten Years Service as Station Master at Bangour Station 30th Oct 1914.” This short-lived station at the end of a short branch from Uphall on the Bathgate line opened in June 1905 and closed in May 1921. In working order and complete with small pendulum and winder.£200

465LMS SIGNALBOX BOARD: WYLLIE NO 1. An ex-LNWR location on the Sirhowy line in the South Wales valleys. Wyllie No.1 was a LNWR Type 5 design signal box. It was reduced to a non block post in November 1967 and closed in September 1968. 56” x 10½” beading replaced and front repainted in black with white lettering. VGC.£150

467MARYPORT & CARLISLE RAILWAY wooden cased TELEPHONE manufactured by Peel-Conner Telephone Works of Coventry with front mounted bakelite mouthpiece and brass trumpet earpiece on a hook at the side. Complete with original brass plate: “Maryport Crossing.” A location on the Maryport –Carlisle line which opened in July 1840. 6¾” wide x 8” high x 6¾” deep over mouthpiece, complete and in VGC.£180
468GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY locomotive cab AUTOMATIC TRAIN CONTROL EQUIPMENT BOX comprising box with front opening door embossed “GWR” with large brass bell above and vacuum equipment at side. 11” wide, 18” high and 4”deep (overall measurements). Most of the innards appear to have been removed. Restored to VGC in green with yellow stripe, the brass bell nicely polished.£50

There is a spike in the middle for cleaning ash from pipes. Would have stood in the waiting room. From an ex-GNR Lincolnshire station between Willoughby and Louth with the full title Aby for Claythorpe closed in September 1961. VGC.£40

474GREAT EASTERN RAILWAY sliding knob three-aspect HANDLAMP clearly stamped “GER” on the reducing cone near the top retaining clip. The innards comprise a vessel stamped “LNE-E” and an unmarked burner and reflector. Complete with a back handle. Internal glasses are present and complete. Bevel-edged front lens with brass rim and lens cone. The date stamp March 1911. Repainted to VGC.£100

Renumbered LNER 3485 O2/1 class, then 3930 in September 1946 and finally BR 63930 in April 1948. Rebuilt to class O2/4 in August 1959 and withdrawn from Grantham in December 1962. Cut up by Central Wagon Co., Ince. Ex-loco condition front and back, but has been welded in the middle and some metal excess around right hand bolt hole..£420
477SHEDPLATE: 33C SHOEBURYNESS (1949 – June 1962). Formerly 13C in the London Midland Region, the shed was transferred to the Eastern Region in 1949. In the late 1950s its entire allocation of 48 locos was Stanier 2-6-4Ts for working the former LT&SR line into Fenchurch Street. Ex-loco condition. A rare example.£620

Sykes “Lock & Block” BLOCK INSTRUMENT complete with the original makers brass plate “WR Syles Railway Signal Works Clapham London.” Glazed display showing occupational state of the section. Plunger with movable lock to prevent operation when section closed, also brass covers over time release keyholes. Unfortunately there is no indication which signalbox the instrument originated from, but is typical of the type used in the South London area by the LB&SCR. 9½” wide, 15” high, 6½” deep, plus interlocking rodding at base. Became Royal Thai Railways No.391. Rectangular, 12¾” x 7⅝” slightly curved to fit the smokebox side. The front partially cleaned, the back in ex-loco condition. Only one plate of this type carried.£120

486DEUTSCHE REICHSBAHN [EAST GERMANY] SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 89 6029 from a standard gauge 0-6-0T for the Kleinbahn Heuderber-Mattiernoll, No 278. Built Henschel as their 20505 of 1925. This private railway was nationalised in 1949 and the 89 series number allocated. Out of use by 1965, and scrapped in 1968.  Rectangular, 28” x 8” aluminium numbers riveted to steel plate in ex-loco condition.£100
487BR(E) STATION FASCIA BOARD: WRABNESS with totems at each end. In two parts, 55½” x 5¾” and 56½ x 5½” dark blue enamel with white lettering in VGC with deep colour and shine. An ex-GER station on the Manningtree - Harwich branch opened in August 1854, still open today.£75

The back bears the legend “Upper Tyndrum Signal Box” which was located on the West Highland line between Crianlarich and Bridge of Orchy opened by the NBR in August 1894. The box is a North British Railway Type 6a design fitted with a 15 lever Saxby & Farmer 1888 Duplex frame.  It was opened on 31st July 1894, closed in December 1985 and remains in a preserved state. Extremely rare.£260

496SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE: 30087 as carried by the ex-LSWR B4 class loco No 87 built at Nine Elms in December 1891 to Order No B4 at a cost of £1339. Retained the number 87 in SR days, finally being renumbered 30087 by BR as late as December 1952!. Withdrawn in December 1958 from Bournemouth and cut up at Eastleigh. Repainted front to VGC, the back repainted also, but the embossed BR(S) Eastleigh triangle clearly in evidence.£950

498BRASS ANNETT’S KEY ENGRAVED: “POSSESSION OF THIS KEY Authorises Ganger to Occupy the Line Between 169M 60CH and Crowcombe” from the West Somerset line between Norton Fitzwarren and Watchet on the Minehead branch. The line closed January 1971, but is now owned and operated by the West Somerset Railway Preservation Society which restored services in June 1979. VGC.£300

500LNWR/LMS large copper topped STATION OR YARD GAS LAMP standing some 40” high to top of finial with a 22” diameter brown enamel shade, on a round base to fit atop post. Has fittings for the input of gas, but no burner or globe. There are a few spare parts though and these might help finish the job. Restored to VGC, the copper top polished, but not overdone. Exact origin location unknown, but thought to be from the Rugby area.N/S
