| 45 | LNER SIGNALBOX BOARD: CORBY GLEN. The name in blue enamel with white LNER Gill Sans type lettering held within a GNR style wooden frame,. From an ECML location in Lincolnshire on Stoke Bank famous for Mallards 1938 record run. Until 1947 the name of the village was simply Corby, Lincs. However, in the nearby county of Northamptonshire another Corby had been greatly enlarged by the addition of a steel works and housing to match. Some confusion arose between the two places, so the LNER consulted the villagers to choose an additional name to distinguish the two. The villagers chose "Glen" in reference to the western branch of the River Glen which flows through the village. It is therefore safe to assume that the enamel was fitted in LNER days to an existing frame. The station closed to passengers in June 1959. The signal box was a GNR Type 4a design fitted with a 75 lever frame. It opened in 1912 and was closed in April 1975 when signalling in the area passed temporarily to Stoke signal box, being transferred to Peterborough power signal box in July 1975. 39½ x 8¾ in original condition front and back. | £620 |

This was the second member of the OVS Bulleid designed class and was built at Eastleigh in June 1941 with air smoothed casing and was originally numbered 21C2 becoming 35002 in BR days. It was rebuilt in May 1958 when the air smoothed casing was removed. Latterly allocated to Nine Elms and Bournemouth, withdrawal came in January 1964 from Nine Elms. It was eventually broken up at Slag Reduction Co., Rotherham in December 1964, having spent a long period in store. Controversially, the class was produced by the Southern Railway to alleviate their acute shortage of express passenger locomotives although they were originally classified as mixed-traffic locos to circumvent wartime restrictions on construction. It was the then chairman of the Union Castle Line who actually suggested that the class was named after famous shipping lines many of which used the Southern Railway ports. The design of these locomotives, like their nameplates, was unconventional and was not without its problems but overall they were able to handle with ease trains like the Atlantic Coast Express, the Royal Wessex, the Bournemouth Belle plus the Golden Arrow and the Night Ferry as well as other boat trains. Overall dimensions are: 73½ length x 30 diameter target. Large lettered name, face lightly polished only, the central enamel flag is superb with hardly a blemish, the back is in superb ex-loco condition.
